French Red Room Makeover
The Challenge: Turn a nondescript, white bedroom
into a red jewel-toned boudoir in one weekend.
The Inspiration: The all-red bedroom from the
movie “Amelie.”

WARNING: FROU-FROU ALERT!

I will admit that this room makeover is different from my usual clean,
minimalist style. However, it still has elements that make it very Jonathan
Fong Style.
-
It is inspired
by a movie, in this case “Amelie.” I’ve
always said, “Live life like a movie.” What movie
do you want your home to be like? Placing this bedroom in the
French
flea
market world of Amelie made this make-over easy to imagine
and implement.
-
It has whimsical touches throughout.
-
It was extremely
easy to do. Those TV decorating shows like Trading Spaces
and Queer
Eye have huge crews that do all the
work. Amateurs! I did this room all by myself in
two days, thank you very much. Why I don’t have my own TV
show is beyond me.

-
Fabric was attached to the wall using a staple gun.
-
Using spray adhesive to affix it, classical sheet music
from the thrift store served as a unique wall border.
-
Above the sheet music, tassel trim was attached using a
staple gun.

|
-
Vintage advertising posters were stapled to the wall while still
rolled up to give them an impromptu look.
