My first idea was to create an illuminated headboard depicting a 21st century cherub. I like to think of her as the Paris Hilton of angels. This photograph, taken by Brian Davis, and featuring my friend Sheila as the angel, was blown up onto a duratrans and backlit in a lightbox. “Let there be light,” as it were. |

Above the bed I created a halo of white feathers, as if angels had just flown up into heaven after delivering room service. |

Flanking the bed are giant images of magnolias. These are also photographs by Brian Davis, printed onto fabric and upholstered to the walls using my foam core/duct tape/Velcro method. I chose magnolias because the petals look like angel wings. |

I also printed one of the magnolia images onto upholstery fabric and made this custom chair. |

For a whimsical touch, I made these display boxes wrapped in cloud images, topped with apples. They give the room a surreal Magritte touch, but the apples also suggest temptation from the Garden of Eden. |

On the sheer window panels, I individually glued maribou feathers by hand. One by one. By myself. Am I insane? Yes, thank you. |

Many of the furniture and accessories were from West Elm Santa Monica. I selected affordable sources to show that to possess style, you don’t have to have more money than God.
Other furniture sources:
