Picnic Straw Arrangement

It looks like these drinking straws are the daisies’ stems, but it’s just a fun illusion. This cheerful arrangment is great for a picnic, Sunday brunch, or a meeting of your local Jonathan Fong Fan Club.

What you’ll need:

Drinking straws, brightly colored
A tumbler or drinking glass
A rubber band
A ribbon
Gerber daisies

1. First, put a rubber band around the tumbler.

Then start placing straws in between the tumbler and rubber band, letting the rubber band hold the straws into place. Try to use a tumbler that is straight up and down, i.e., where the top is about the same size as the bottom. This way, the straws will line up straighter.

2. Continue placing straws . . .

between the rubber band and the tumbler until the tumbler is completely covered. You can use straws that are all one color, or use two different colors as shown in the picture.

3. If your straws are the bendable type . . .

bend them out. Then tie a ribbon around the whole thing to hide the rubber band.

4. Fill the tumbler with water and add a bunch of gerber daisies.

Actually, any flowers will work, but the cheeriness of the gerbers goes perfectly with the whimsy of the drinking straws. And I must say, I was very impressed with how well the colors matched.
